Six members of Ryanair cabin crew have been sacked after a ‘fake picture’ of them sleeping on an airport floor went viral. The staff was sacked on the grounds of gross misconduct after staging the ‘fake photograph’, Ryanair added.

The six people fired were part of a group of eight pilots and 16 cabin crew members based in Portugal, who were stranded in the Spanish airport and argued that they were left with just eight seats between them for the night.

Ryanair has said that no crew slept on the floor due to the incident and that the photograph had been set up. It added: “Due to storms in Porto a number of flights diverted to Malaga. As this was a Spanish national holiday, hotels were fully booked. The crew spent a short period of time in the crew room before being moved to a VIP lounge, and returned to Porto the next day.”
