From Monday non-essential shops will reopen across England and the Chancellor said that retailers have mad “extraordinary steps” to ensure public safety.
Rishi Sunak told the BBC’s Andrew Marr show on Sunday that Perspex screens and social distancing measures are in place across shops.
Sunak said, “all of that will mean people can feel safe,” as retailers have placed 2m floor markings across shops.
Retailers have implemented pleas for customers only to touch items that they will buy, preventing contaminating products and shopping baskets will be decontaminated after each use.
He acknowledged shoppers may be nervous going shopping again as we are exiting lockdown.
He insisted that “it is a safe environment and we should all be able to go out knowing that we should be able to shop in confidence.
“Shops up and down the country are desperate to welcome us all back and I think we all want to see our high streets spring back to life again.”
