Portugal in a state of emergency and imposes night-time curfews

by Mark Fitt Political Journalist

Portugal has entered into a state of emergency and the government has imposed night-time curfews amid a fresh tide of infections.

From Monday almost 7m people across the country will now be under a night-time curfew which will last for at least two-weeks, from 11pm until 5am, and on weekend the population will not be allowed out at 1pm.

In recent weeks Portugal has seen a steep rise in coronavirus infections, and stricter powers could be introduced with prolonged measures if the spread of the virus does not recede.
