A police officer was stabbed yesterday in a “water fight” in Hyde Park yesterday.
Met Police said one officer suffered a head injury while two members of the public were left wounded after a crowd becmae hostile towards police at around 9pm yesterday.
Eyewitness Waqqas Nawaz told BBC Radio London “around 300 to 400 people” had gathered “throwing bottles at the police”.
Met Commander BJ Harrington said: “In Hyde Park we had a hot summer’s day, lots of people coming together to enjoy that, and then a group of people who set up a sound system and unlicensed music event. Officers found themselves to be under attack.
“We reported two officers injured, it was actually five, one of which was stabbed in the hand. One with a bottle injury to the head and a couple of members of the public injured. That’s not acceptable.”
