Boris Johnson has been dealt a major blow as the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Arlene Foster has announced she cannot support the PMs Brexit deal “as it stands.”
However, the prime minister is still hopeful that he will be able to bring back a deal on Thursday from Brussels, as he is due to meet EU leaders for a crunch summit meeting.
In a joint statement Foster and her deputy, Nigel Dodds said, “As things stand, we could not support what is being suggested on customs and consent issues, and there is a lack of clarity on VAT.
“We will continue to work with the government to try and get a sensible deal that works for Northern Ireland and protects the economic and constitutional integrity of the United Kingdom.”
