Don’t be left stranded by travel disruption this summer

Travel disruption plagued summer get-aways last year from industrial strikes to cancelled flights and staff shortages, which left many travellers stranded or missing flights and connections.

According to a new survey of 1,000 UK holidaymakers by Opinium for Multitrip.com, a specialist travel insurance provider, over a third (37%) of holidaymakers incorrectly say travel disruption, e.g., an event outside your control like earthquakes and strikes, is covered by all travel insurance policies and 29% do not know if it is included or not.

Christian Bennett from Multitrip.com, said, โ€œRegular travel insurance generally does not provide cover in the event of strikes, adverse weather and natural disasters.

โ€œWhen it comes to cancelled flights,ย whilstย European airlines are obliged to refund or rearrange cancelled flights this doesnโ€™t cover customers for lost accommodation costs, or other irrecoverable travel expenses, such as event tickets or car hire costs.โ€

He added, โ€œWe understand the impact cancelled flights due to strikes and adverse weather conditions can have on travel plans.

โ€œOur Travel Disruption add-on gives extra coverage up to ยฃ1,000 for additional or irrecoverable accommodation and travel expenses if a flight is cancelled. This will ensure customers are provided with an extra level of protection in the event their flight is cancelled.โ€
