The Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy has been called a “disgrace” and being “disrespectful” for not wearing a poppy during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday.
During PMQs Lammy did not wear the symbol of national remembrance as he stood in for Sir Keir Starmer in the House of Commons.
The Tories slammed Lammy as he stands in for Starmer as he is at the Cop30 summit in Brazil.
Tory MP Kevin Hollinrake wrote on X, “A disgrace that David Lammy, the Deputy Prime Minister of this nation and standing in for the Prime Minister at PMQs, is not wearing a poppy.
Saqib Bhatti added, “Lammy isn’t wearing a poppy how disrespectful.”
Labour MP Calvin Bailey gave the Deputy Prime Minister his poppy as he said he forgot his poppy as he has a new suit.
Lammy told Tory MP Bob Blackman, he said: “I bought a new suit this morning because my godmother said she would be watching.
I am very grateful to the honourable member for Sunderland South for ensuring that despite wearing a new suit I have managed to put my poppy on.
