The Home Secretary has unveiled plans to strip asylum seekers of benefits who refuse to work and the Home Office has said they will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to crack down on the illegal migrants who claim to be children.
The Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said these new policies will be introduced this week as the immigration system is “broken,” but these new policies will only apply to new arrivals.
Currently asylum seekers who cross the English Channel are legally allowed to have free housing, money and can work should their claim take more than a year to process.
Under the Home Office new plans migrants who break the law or refuse to work will lose taxpayers benefits.
The Sun reported that AI will work out which migrants are lying about their real ages to stay in the UK.
GB News host asked migration minister Mike Tapp over the government’s plans to use AI.
Camilla Tominey asked Tapp, “Are you seriously telling me that we need AI to establish whether a bloke arriving on a dinghy with a full beard who appears middle-aged isn’t a child?”
He replied, “Well, you’ve used one example. There are plenty of examples like this.
“I’ve been to the Western Jet Foil, and I’ve been shown pictures by the officers there, where I’ve got to guess the age of some of these people, and it’s really difficult.
“So bringing in extra tools to help us be more effective at – that can’t be a bad thing.”
Mahmood told Sky News on Sunday, “Illegal migration is causing huge divides here in our own country, and I do believe we need to act if we are to retain public consent for having an asylum system at all.
“What is happening with our illegal migration system is this is a broken system. It’s not right-wing talking points or fake news or misinformation that is suggesting that we’ve got a problem. It is a broken system.
We will bring order and control back into our system and, alongside that, we will create new safe routes for people because we still want to fulfil our obligations to help people fleeing wars and conflict around the world.”
