Fourteen people, including a young girl, have been injured and one person killed, after a man opened fire on a bustling avenue in Toronto on Sunday, police said.
The eight-year-old girl is in a critical condition, Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said, adding that the suspect, who has not yet been identified, is dead.
The authorities have not identified a motive and the chief said he would not rule out terrorism. “We are looking at all possible motives… and not closing any doors,” Saunders further told media.
Witnesses told media that they heard 25 gunshots.
Toronto Mayor, John Tory, condemning the shooting as he tweeted: “While our city will always be resilient in the face of such attacks, it does not mean such a cowardly act committed against our residents is any less painful — this is an attack against innocent families and our entire city.”
