The US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Thursday that warplanes carried out airstrikes on an Iranian backed weapons storage facility in Syria which killed nine people.
The attacks were in response to attacks against American personnel and the weapons storage facility supplies different groups within the Middle East.
Austin said that two F-15 fighter jets hit the facility that was being used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other affiliated groups.

Austin said in a statement, “US military forces conducted a self-defense strike on a facility in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and affiliated groups.
“This strike was conducted by two US F-15s against a weapons storage facility.
“This precision self-defense strike is a response to a series of attacks against US personnel in Iraq and Syria by IRGC-Quds Force affiliates.”
Austin added that the US “is fully prepared to take further necessary measures to protect our people and our facilities.”
He said, “The President has no higher priority than the safety of U.S. personnel, and he directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests.”
In Yemen the Houthis rebel group said that they had shot down and American MQ-9 drone on Wednesday.
The Houthis said in a statement, “Our air defenses were able to down an American MQ-9 while it was carrying out hostile surveillance and espionage activities in Yemeni territorial waters as part of American military support.”
