Two thirds of organisations lack vision for digital change

63% of organisations lack a clear and actionable vision to drive digital change, according to new research by one of the UK’s leading digital transformation consultancies, Purple.

The research, which surveyed delegates who attended the Digital Leader’s Summit, a new digital transformation conference hosted by Purple in June 2019, also revealed a concerning 60% of respondents advised that they do not feel confident in their capability to deliver impactful, digital change.

When questioned on whether their organisation had the right internal skillset to implement digital change, a concerning 62% of participants responded negatively, with a further 70% advising they do not have the capability in-house or within their business to bring out new products based on current market conditions.

Providing a clear insight into perceptions towards digital skillset and change, the survey revealed two clear issues that are preventing Leaders from delivering transformation: The first being that organisations are unaware of the fact any form of change starts with people not technology, confirmed by 52% of respondents who were completely clueless to the concept of customer experience mapping. The second is a clear lack of coherent, internal communication, where 60% of respondents advised that processes within their organisation had not been documented, preventing scalable change and resulting growth.

Other key take outs from the research include:

  • 75% of respondents advised that their I.T. department was responsible for driving digital change
  • 52% of respondents advised that I.T. is represented at Board Level
  • 50% of respondents advised that their organisation didn’t have a digital transformation strategy in place
