Captain Sir Tom Moore is to be honoured with a national clap at 6pm this evening following him passing away on Tuesday from Covid and pneumonia.

Speaking in the House of Commons during Prime Minister’s Questions, Boris Johnson had encouraged people to clap at 6pm tonight in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore.

Johnson told MPs to “show our appreciation for him and all that he stood for and believed in.

“I encourage everyone to join in a national clap for Captain Tom and all those health workers for whom he raised money at 6pm this evening.”

MPs in the Commons observed a minute’s silence for Sir Tom and thousands who lost their lives throughout the pandemic.

Speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle said, “His dignity and determination in raising money to support the NHS charities caught the nation’s mood at the most difficult time. He exemplified the best of our values.”
