Rupert Lowe has emerged as an early contender to succeed Nigel Farage as leader of Reform UK, as the party faces mounting scrutiny over allegations concerning foreign political funding.
Bookmakers have priced a number of potential successors to Farage, with Lowe, the former Reform MP who now leads rival party Restore Britain, available at 7/1 to make a return to the party.
The 68-year-old has also attracted the largest share of recent betting activity, accounting for 14 per cent of bets placed on the next Reform leader this week.
Farage has come under renewed pressure following an undercover investigation that prompted the suspension of two senior Reform figures over allegations that the party sought to circumvent restrictions on foreign political donations. Reform has denied wrongdoing and Farage has rejected suggestions that the party accepted illegal money.
The controversy has nevertheless intensified speculation about the party’s long-term leadership. Farage remains leader and continues to command significant support among Reform members, with recent reporting suggesting that potential successors currently struggle to match his political standing.
Lowe’s emergence in the betting comes despite his acrimonious departure from Reform. He was suspended from the party in 2025 and subsequently established Restore Britain, which has positioned itself as a more hardline rival to Farage’s party.
The prospect of Lowe returning to Reform would therefore represent a significant reversal in the relationship between the two politicians and could reshape the competition on the right of British politics.
For now, however, the betting market reflects speculation rather than an indication that Farage is preparing to step down. The Reform leader remains central to the party’s electoral strategy, despite the latest controversy over its finances.
