Flexible working intiative goes ahead today
Over 100,000 Londoners from 120 different companies are working flexibly today as part of the Smarter Working Initiative.
The campaign, set up by conference call company Powwownow allows parents or guardians the flexibility to take children to school or day activities, on the first day of the school summer holidays, as well as highlighting how efficient and effective people can be when not tied to the standard 9-5 working hours or their desk.
The British businesses involved include RED Driving School, hybrid estate agency Purplebricks.com and luxury fashion retailer Orlebar Brown, who have banded together to showcase and attempt to implement further flexible working practices in the UK to benefit both the businesses and staff alike.
Jason Downes, Managing Director of Powwownow and founder of the Smarter Working Initiative, said:
“Culture is the biggest obstacle to flexible working and the more obvious the benefits become and the more we can show how this way of working suits modern society, then hopefully the more barriers we can break down. We practice what we preach as we know our workforce work best with flexibility as the 9am-5pm office-based routine is dull, outdated and unproductive.”
