The prime minister’s chief advisor Dominic Cummings has been blamed by Labour MPs for Sajid Javid’s bombshell resignation, just weeks before he was due to deliver his Budget.
There have been long standing rumours over the tension between the ex-chancellor and Cummings.
Shadow chancellor John McDonnell said it is “clear Dominic Cummings has won the battle to take absolute control of the Treasury and has installed his stooge as the Chancellor.”
In another tweet McDonnell said, “This is a historical record. A government in chaos within weeks of an election.
“It’s clear Dominic Cummings has won the battle to take absolute control of the Treasury and has installed his stooge as the Chancellor.”
Whilst Labour deputy leadership candidate Angela Rayner called the process the “Dominic Cummings reshuffle.”
Cardiff West MP, Kevin Brennan said on Twitter, “farewell” to Javid, writing, “You liked to tell us you were the son of a bus driver.”
He added, “Now Cummings has thrown you under a bus. Which is ironic.”
Warrington North MP, Charlotte Nichols said Cummings was “unelected, unaccountable and appears to have just effectively forced the resignation of the Chancellor of the Exchequer.”
Labour peer Andrew Adonis said, “the big story of the reshuffle is that Johnson has appointed Cummings as Chancellor and Co-Prime Minister.”
