The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into a “number of events” in “Downing Street and Whitehall in the last two years.”

Boris Johnson is now under immense pressure as there has been many reports of illegal parties in Downing Street during lockdown and other government departments during 2020/2021.

Johnson is facing many calls to resign as Prime Minister from opposition parties and from his very own backbench MPs.

“I can confirm that the Met is now investigating a number of events that took place at Downing Street and Whitehall in the last two years in relation to potential breaches of Covid-19 regulations,” Met Police commissioner Cressida Dick told the London Assembly.

“My officers have assessed several other events that appear to have taken place at Downing Street and Whitehall on the available information these other events are assessed as not reaching the threshold for criminal investigation.”

“I should stress that we are now investigating does not mean fixed penalty notices will necessarily be issued in every instance and to every person involved.

“We will not be giving a running commentary on our current investigations, but I can assure you we will give updates at significant points.”

Johnson has admitted attending a garden party on 20 May 2020 in Downing Street which was a “bring your own booze” party, but he thought it was a “work event” as no one had told him it was against the rules that he made.

This investigation will plunge Johnson into deeper jeopardy ahead of the publication of the Sue Gray investigation.
