Just after The Evening Standard reported that the government has asked Bank of England Governor Mark Carney to stay on for an extra year, which is beyond his scheduled departure in June 2019, the Treasury has now denied this report.
“We don’t recognise their reporting at all,” a Treasury spokeswoman later clarified.
“Our position is the same – we plan to start recruitment soon,” the ministry spokesperson said.
Spokesmen for Prime Minister Theresa May and the BoE declined to comment on the report.
