The Met Office has officially said on Thursday that a new record temperature has been sent for July as the mercury hit 98.42F (36.9C).
Forecasters have said that the new record outstrips the previous record set in July 2015 at Heathrow of 98.06F (36.7C).
The sizzling temperatures could spark thunderstorms and downpours as a yellow warning has been issued for most of England from 3pm on Thursday until 4am on Friday.
