Javid will stand out ‘in a Cabinet of sycophants’ but Labour warns he’s a fox in chicken coop

The former Labour MP and Health Secretary, Alan Johnson has said the appointment of Sajid Javid taking over Matt Hancock is a “good appointment.”

Johnson said that Javid will need a full and proper breifing and that the new Health Secretary will stand out in a “Cabinet of sycophants.”

Speaking to Trevor Philips Johnson said that he could not understand why there was a camera in Hancock’s office.

He said, “I could never understand why there was a camera in the secretary of state’s office.

“There was never a camera in my office when I was health secretary or in any of the other five cabinet positions.”

Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, Jonathon Ashworth said that putting Javid in the new role is like “putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop.”

Ashworth said that the government must start on “delivering the quality care that patients deserve,” and pointed out that more than 5m people are on the NHS waiting list.

He said that cancer treatments have been delayed and young people are struggling to receive mental health care due to the NHS enetering into a pandemic “on the back of 10-years of underfunding” along with “cutbacks.”

The Shadow Health Secretary said, “Sajid Javid was responsible for that. He was a Treasury minister. He was a leading advocate for, indeed an architect of the austerity that has afflicted the NHS these last 10 years, which has weakened it.

“In many ways making him Health Secretary, given his record as an architect of austerity, it’s a bit like putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop.”
