Holidays to Portugal and Canary Islands to be allowed

According to reports the government are set to add Portugal and the Canary Islands to quarantine free list this week.

Once travel resumes on 17 May Malta and a few Greek Islands are also expected to be on the green travel list.

The government are to announce tomorrow when holidays and international travel can resume.

A senior government official told the i newspaper that no more than 12 destinations will allowed on the green lists.

The official told the newspaper, “The list is likely to overlap a lot, but we are also considering other factors which the Foreign Office does not take into account such as variants of concern and sequencing capacity.”

Earlier this week Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, “I think that there will be some openings up on the 17th, but we have got to be cautious and we have got to be sensible and we have got to make sure that we don’t see the virus coming back in.”
