British Gas-owner Centrica has appointed Charles Berry as it’s new chairman in a bid to revive its fortunes.
Centrica has been struggling with falling profits as more customers choose alternatives to the Big Six energy suppliers.
Charles Berry, the current chairman of Weir Group, will take up the role in February, replacing Rick Haythornthwaite.
Haythornthwaite said Berry would bring with him a “breadth of international energy and engineering knowledge and a long record of successful leadership of businesses across industrial, minerals, and retail sectors over the last 20 years”.
Berry has previously been chairman at manufacturing group Senior, energy companies Drax and Eaga and telecoms provider Thus.
