The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved an official request for assistance and the army are “highly likely” to start delivering fuel this week.
The Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng confirmed this morning that the army will be called into help out delivering fuel to stations across the UK.
Kwarteng told reporters, “It takes a couple of days, sometimes a few days, to get troops on the ground.
“We have decided to do that and I think in the next couple of days people will see some soldiers driving the tanker fleet.”
Kwarteng was asked by reporters if he can guarantee Christmas will not be affected, he replied with, “I’m not guaranteeing anything, all I’m saying is I think the situation is stabilising.
“I think people realise that this will pass and we are very, very focused that we are getting enough drivers.”
