London could be facing tougher measures being introduced this week by the government as coronavirus cases are soaring across the capital.
London has been struck with more than 7,700 cases in a week, which has indicated a looming threat that the capital could see a city-wide clampdown.
Community leaders have been discussing “only essential” travel, and there could be a ban on social mixing between households.
The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has warned that the capital is “now at a crucial stage” and is strongly urging people not to “ignore warnings” from the experts.
Khan said on Monday in a tweet, “COVID-19 cases are increasing in London. We know our city is at a crucial stage in our fight against coronavirus.
“Please don’t ignore the warnings from the experts. Follow the rules, wear a face mask, wash your hands and stay a safe distance from others.
“We can turn this around.”
