PwC has bashed out an interesting bit of research predicting how many medals it expects countries to get at the Sochi Winter Olympics based on socio-economic as well as sporting factors.
The analysis is based on “econometric modelling, testing the historic correlation between a range of socio-economic metrics and historic medal success”.
PwC’s research suggests that the size of a country’s economy is “significant in determining success”, as well as its climate and the number of ski resorts per head (perhaps less surprisingly).
