There is “utter dismay” in Buckingham Palace over parties being held in Downing Street during lockdown.
The Queen made huge “sacrifices” last year as she missed her last Christmas with her husband of 73 years with Prince Philip.
Staff close to Her Majesty are furious over the footage which emerged where staff were joking and laughing whilst millions of Brits stuck to the lockdown rules.
Sir Keir told MPs on Wednesday in the House of Commons, “Her Majesty the Queen sat alone when she marked the passing of the man she’d been married to for 73 years. Leadership, sacrifice – that’s what gives leaders the moral authority to lead.
“Does the prime minister think he has the moral authority to lead and to ask the British people to stick to the rules?
Boris Johnson failed to answer the question and accused the Labour leader of trying to “muddy the waters.”
The Prime Minister replied, “Not only that but the Labour Party, and the Labour leader in particular, have played politics throughout this pandemic.’
He then accused Sir Keir of trying to “muddy the waters, to confuse the public and to cause needless confusion about the guidance” during the pandemic.
Sir Keir replied, “That’s so desperate and even his own side can see it.”
The unnamed Buckingham Palace source added, “It would be a gross understatement to say people are angry.
“Many missed Christmas, birthdays, other special occasions and weeks on end away from their families.
“But it was all in the spirit it was for the greater good and we were doing our bit. It’s a slap in the face for anyone frankly.”
