Portugal has introduced new travel rules forcing Brits to quarantine for 14 days if they are not fully vaccinated.
The German chancellor, Angela Merkel with the backing of the French President Emmanuel Macron are demanding that Brits must quarantine for 14 days entering any country in the EU.
However the Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonia Costa has made his own decision and is allowing no quarantine for Brits who are fully vaccinated.
Costa said, “We are going to discuss in the council what decisions are to be taken regarding the entry control of people from third countries, namely the United Kingdom.
“Portugal has followed the doctrine of practicing what is agreed at the European level. Furthermore, as we currently hold the presidency of the council of the European Union, it would be particularly bad for us not to follow what is agreed at European level.”
Portugal are to host the European Council, and Costa suggested that his country could sign up to Merkel’s Europe wide regulations on travel.
The Portuguese Prime Minister was asked if he will enforce fully vaccinated Brits to quarantine, and said, “If that was the wish of the council, yes.
“The United Kingdom shouldn’t have any different treatment.”
