TalkTalk warns on earnings despite increase in customers

Telecoms group, Talk Talk has reported they will take a £15m hit due to an accounting change with increased investment, despite reporting their eighth consecutive quarter of higher customers.

The telecoms company has 148,000 broadband customers, placing them firmly on target for 150,000 to beat their full-year target.

Talk Talk booked a headline revenue of £386m, or 2.9% rise, in the third quarter, their customer ase grew by 44,000.

However, City earnings expectations of £259m will be missed, as Talk Talk will spend up to £15m in a change to its accounting standard and investment in growth.

Tristia Harrison, Talk Talk chief executive said, “We continue to see strong trading momentum in the business, with customer growth ahead of expectations.

“Quarter three was the eighth consecutive quarter of rising customer numbers and we saw record demand for fibre.”
