Rishi Sunak is 4/1 to leave his role next year after the former chancellor was named the new Conservative leader on Monday, he is 14/1 to go before January, but 2024 at 6/5 is the most likely year he will depart.

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson is the early 9/4 favourite to replace Sunak, while Penny Mordaunt is 4/1, with Jeremy Hunt 13/2.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said, “Rishi Sunak is the third Tory member to be Prime Minister in the past three months, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see yet another quick exit from the position.

“The former chancellor is 14/1 to leave his role before January, while he is 4/1 to go in 2023. Meanwhile, 2024 remains the most likely year he will depart, which is 6/5.

“Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who pulled out of the most recent leadership race, is the early 9/4 favourite to be the next Tory leader, with Penny Mordaunt 4/1 and Jeremy Hunt 13/2.”
