The Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned on Saturday that Western sanctions are akin to a declaration of war on Russia.

In a botched attempt to defended his invasion of Ukraine Putin said on state television, Russia wants Ukraine to be “demilitarised,” and said the country should have a neutral status.

Mad Vlad repeated his familiar line that Russia hoped to “de-Nazify” Ukraine.

The dictator said Moscow needs to defend Russian speakers in Ukraine’s east as well as its own interests.

The Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the West has engaged in “economic banditry” against Moscow and that Russia will respond.

Peskov did not specify exactly what response there would be but warned it would be in line with Russian interests.

“This does not mean Russia is isolated,” he told reporters on Saturday.

“The world is too big for Europe and America to isolate a country, and even more so a country as big as Russia.

“There are many more countries in the world.”
