Prime Minister set to announce tougher measures across England

4th Jan 21 1:25 pm

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said on Monday that he will be revealing new stricter measures and that the next few weeks will be “tough, tough.”

It is believed that Johnson will make a decision today over what new restrictions will be enforced across England.

During a visit at Chase Farm Hospital in North London, Johnson said, “If you look at the numbers there’s no question we will have to take tougher measures and we will be announcing those in due course.”

The Prime Minister said that people must keep to their discipline and the government will do everything to keep the virus at bay.

Johnson added, “We will do everything we can to keep the virus under control and people should be in no doubt that the Government will do everything that’s necessary.

“But I must stress at this critical moment it is so vital that people keep disciplined.”

Conservative MP Jeremy Hunt, chair of the Commons Health and Social Care Select Committee said on Twitter today, “Time to act: thread on why we need to close schools, borders, and ban all household mixing RIGHT AWAY.”

The Prime Minister’s spokesman said the government are waiting to see the impact of the latest restrictions before deciding on what further action to take.

He added, “We have been waiting to see the impact of the Tier 4 measures. It is a bit unclear still at the moment.

“I have always said we would continue to look at the latest evidence and data and that is what we base our decisions on.

“We have always said that we would take the measures needed to reduce the spread of the virus and we will continue to do.”

This comes as the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock has said today that he refuses to rule out a third national lockdown as virus cases are soaring.

The UK has seen more than 50,000 cases for the sixth day in a row as of Sunday and Minister’s are under pressure to plunge England into a national lockdown.

On Sunday the Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer called for a third national lockdown, and he said it should be done within 24hours.
