Luton Airport evacuated after “suspicious package” found

Update: Luton airport is now running a normal service after a bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion of a “suspicious item” that later turned out to be hair straighteners.

Luton Airport has been evacuated after police found a “suspicious package”.

A bomb disposal squad has arrived at the scene.

 

 

Thousands of passengers are facing disruption to their journeys.

A spokeswoman for the airport said: “London Luton Airport has evacuated the terminal building after a suspicious item was found in the security search area.

“The decision has been taken with the police to ensure the safety and security of passengers and staff.

“Further updates regarding the security and operations at the airport will be provided as soon as possible.”
