Hurray! It’s here! 4G is now live and kicking in 11 cities across the UK offering speeds up to five times faster than 3G.

Launched by Orange and T-mobile owner Everything Everywhere,  the new networks will be available in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester.

The service is available on the Apple iPhone 5 and HTC, Samsung, Nokia and Huawei devices. Prices start from £36p/m for indviduals and £30p/m for businesses with up to 50 employees. However, customers will be charged extra if they exceed download allowances.

EE plans to roll out the service in further six cities including Belfast, Derby, Hull, Newcastle, Nottingham and Southampton. The group aims to cover 70% of the UK by next year and 98% by 2014.

Olaf Swantee, CEO at EE, said: “Today is a landmark day for our company, the UK mobile industry and, most importantly, the country’s businesses and consumers.

“But this is just the start as our 4G network will continue to grow stronger and wider by the day.

“We’re investing £1.5bn in our network to be the first company to offer mobile 4G in the UK, alongside the biggest 3G network.”
