“I want to be more famous than Persil,” Victoria Beckham declared at the beginning of her career.
It’s a revealing quote that demonstrates hard-line ambitiousness – ambitiousness that has propelled her to the top of multiple charts: pop, household-name fame, fashion, and now entrepreneurialism.
The former Posh Spice has just been ranked the UK’s number one entrepreneur in Management Today’s annual ranking, based on wealth, turnover growth and employee growth.
The 40-year-old’s fashion empire turned over £30m in her most recent financial year, and has seen turnover grow by some 2,900% over the past five years.
She’s got 100 staff, a rise of 3,233% over the past five years.
And she’s worth £210m, according to the ranking.
Beckham beat Sir James Dyson (ranked 25), Boohoo.com’s Mahmud Kamani (3), Supergroup’s Julian Dunkerton (4), Bet365’s Denise Coates (6) and Zoopla’s Alex Chesterman (24) to the top spot. And all the others too, of course.
Beckham is one of 14 women who made the MT 100.
The full 100 have a combined turnover of more than £30bn and have more than 158,000 employees on their payroll.
