What’s happening with the bill boards?

Piccadilly Circus’s famous bill boards are due to be switched off so that plans for modernisation can go ahead.

The six illuminated bill boards are set to be removed and will be replaced with one ultra high definition curved screen.

The Telegraph reported that Westminster Council granted permission to Land Securities, who own the area, to carry out the new overhaul.

The work at the site is set to be complete by next autumn.

This also marks the longest time the boards have gone dark since the 1940s.

The current big names on the boards are Coca-Cola and Samsung, Land Securities partners, Ocean Outdoor hope to tempt new advertisers in with the remodel.

Social media will feature on the new board with Twitter and Facebook making an appearance, live video feeds will also arrive on the new revamped screen.

Aedamar Howlett, Coca-Cola GB’s marketing chief, told the Telegraph: “This new technology will allow us to be more agile and tailor our messages in real-time, as well as be more creative when it comes to the content and engaging consumers directly.”
