On Wednesday Essex police and ambulance service found 39 dead bodies in the back of a refrigerated lorry. it has been confirmed eight were women.
A 25-year old man named as Mo Robinson from Portadown, Northern Ireland has been arrested on the suspicion of murder.
Sources have said the 38 adults and the one teenage body found in the lorry in Grays, Essex on Wednesday are Chinese nationals.
It has been alleged that the lorry containing the victims arrived at Purfleet from Zeebrugge in Belgium at 12:30am on Wednesday. The trailer came from Northern Ireland, this could well suggest that Robinson has been innocently caught up in this.
Shortly after 1:05am the lorry and trailer left Purfleet port and police and ambulance staff were called shortly afterwards.
Councillor Paul Berry said the village of Laurelvale in County Armagh where Robinson lives are in “complete shock.”
He said, “The local community is hoping that he [Robinson] has been caught up innocently in this matter but that’s in the hands of Essex Police, and we will leave it in their professional hands to try to catch the perpetrators of this.”
