Tesco has announced that they are to introduce limits on certain items as panic buying resumes over fears of a lockdown as well as coronavirus cases reaching an all-time high.

On Thursday the UK recorded the highest number of daily coronavirus cases ever recorded, at 6,634 new confirmed infections.

Tesco said that customer will only be able to buy three items on some items including flour, dried pasts, toilet paper, baby wipes and anti-bacterial wipes.

Outgoing chief executive of Tesco Dave Lewis told Sky News, “The message would be one of reassurance. I think the UK saw how well the food industry managed last time, so there’s very good supplies of food.

“We just don’t want to see a return to unnecessary panic buying because that creates a tension in the supply chain that’s not necessary.

“And therefore, we would just encourage customers to continue to buy as normal.”
