Rishi Sunak is the clear front-runner at 6/4 to replace her and finally claim the top job, whilst the newly-appointed Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is 9/2 along with recent leadership hopefully Penny Mordaunt.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Rishi Sunak was beaten by Liz Truss in the recent Conservative leadership battle but the former Chancellor may soon have the keys to Number 10 as he’s the 6/4 favourite to become the next Tory leader with Truss 1/9 to vacate the building this year.

“How about a return for Boris Johnson? Nadine Dorries certainly likes the sound of it and it’s not completely out of the question with punters backing a sensational to return to Number 10 at 11/1.

“Other front-runners in the market include Jeremy Hunt and Penny Mordaunt, who are both 9/2 to take the top job, while Ben Wallace is 9/1 and Grant Shapps is 25/1.”
