Russia has threatened to abandon the International Space Station (ISS) warning it could crash in the US in response to sanctions putting NASA on red alert.
There is an American astronaut on the ISS, Mark Vande Hei who was set to return back to earth in three weeks time on a Russian spacecraft.
Head of the Russian Space Agency, Dmitry Rogozin, sent the terrifying warning casting doubt over the American astronaut’s safety.
Rogozin also warned that the ISS will crash into the US without the help of Russia to move away space junk.
Former US astronaut Scott Kelly told ABC News, “I never thought I would hear anything so outrageous.’
Kelly is also not convinced by Russia’s threat, he said, “I think it is just a crazy threat.
“It is not really based in reality.
“We do have the ability to control the orbit of the space station independent of the Russian space agency, so I don’t really see that happening.”
