Entrepreneurship is a rocky road that is not for everyone. It is traversed with unexpected challenges and new competitors and is set in a dynamic digital marketplace. But, at the same time, being your boss and having the opportunity to develop and sell your own products and services is a unique and exciting prospect.

Out of all the entrepreneurs in the UK, there’s a group of women who have risen to the top, earning an enviable reputation not just in their chosen industry but in the entire business sector. Read on to find out who has made our list and why.

Denise Coates

Denise Coates entered the family business, Provincial Racing, an old bookmaking firm. She, however, started from the bottom, making her way to the top until she was running a chain of shops.

But Denise was the first one that noticed the potential of online gambling and eventually decided to mortgage the chain of betting shops and invest the money into the now famous betting site bet365.com. Bet365 has since then expanded its services, and now it offers online casino games.

So, casino players can try their luck with any casino games by reliable providers, including a solid range of slots, poker, blackjack, and baccarat in multiple variations. For reference, the brand Bet365 has a net worth of around £35 billion every year. Denise Coates is one of the wealthiest people on a global scale and has since then amassed a fortune of £2.7 billion.

Yanika Cordina

Yanika Cordina is the inventor of the viral heatless curl tools Flower Curl and the Waver Bun. She is the CEO of Cordina Hair and the mind behind these heatless tools that make it easier for anyone to get overnight curls. Yanika’s products draw more attention with her appearance on the famous TV Show the Dragons Den, where she won support from the famous British businesswoman and entrepreneur Sara Davies.

Juliet Barratt

Juliet Barratt and her husband Alan launched a sports nutrition company, Grenade, with products that include drinks and snack bars. Juliet has a background in teaching but decided to follow her passion for fitness with her husband, Alan. They saw the first products in Tesco even in 2014 and received a private equity investment. Juliet Barratt and her husband Alan became regional winners and National Finalists of GBEA Entrepreneur of the Year in 2018, and their brand continued to go from strength to strength. Eventually, Grenade was acquired by Solihull for £200 million.

Sara Davies

Sara Davies is a serial entrepreneur that developed and sold her first product while she was at York University. Her first business was called The Enveloper, and it was the main product for developing customized envelopes for handmade cards.

Her company Crafter’s Companion is a global retailer that targets crafters with detailed tutorials to help them create home-made crafts and offers papercraft and needlecraft products. Sara is also an investor and supports multiple successful business ventures through Dragons Den, including Cordina Hair, Mini First Aid, Willow, and Flip Top, to name a few.
