Snow and ice yellow warnings are in place for most of the UK

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice on Monday evening into Tuesday morning.

The mercury could fall to as low as -9C in rural parts of Scotland and -6C in exposed parts of Wales and the UK as a whole will experience colder temperatures.

Some snow will affect southern areas on Monday evening which will settle on higher ground in the south of England and in Wales.

Met Office Chief Forecaster Paul Gunderson said, said, “High pressure is dominating our weather, sitting up to the northeast.

“That will bring a real chill across the south but also bring in some snow showers across southern areas of England and south Wales.

“Settling snow will be mainly confined to high ground at first, and most parts will see very little, but small accumulations are possible from late afternoon and through the first half of the night.”

The Met Office has warned that where snow has fallen it could turn into icy conditions and a yellow weather warning is in place for mush of the south of England this afternoon until 3am on Tuesday.
