The collision, which took place last night on the Northbound carriageway between J17 and J18, led to a diesel fuel spillage across the motorway,Highways England said.
A spokesman for North West Motorway Police said: “The M6 northbound between junction 17 and junction 18 remains closed following an earlier RTC. All trapped traffic has been released, Highways England road engineers are working hard to assess when the carriageway can be re-opened. Please consider alternative routes as traffic is starting to build on the northbound M6.”
