If you want a new car and can’t afford to drop a large lump sum of money all in one go, car finance might be the option for you. Finance allows you to break down the overall cost of a car and pay it over a set period of months and years. If you can afford to put something towards a deposit, then your monthly bills will be even smaller. There are many misconceptions about who is and isn’t allowed access and benefits is a common example.  Being on benefits does not disqualify you from getting a car on finance. In fact, all of the benefits categories listed below can be covered. Even if you haven’t got the best credit rating, you might still be eligible for bad credit car finance.

  • Disability Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Child Tax Credits
  • Working Tax Credits
  • Personal Independent Payment (PIP)

To qualify, all you need to do is meet these basic criteria:

  • You have to have lived in the UK for 3 years or longer
  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are not bankrupt
  • You hold a full UK driving licence
  • You can afford the monthly repayments

Once you’ve applied and been accepted, all that’s left to do is choose a car. There are thousands to choose from, but we’ll highlight six popular choices.

  • Cash price:      £5,999
  • Deposit:           £0
  • Monthly repayment:   £219
  • Deal length:     3 years

The Peugeot Expert Tepee fits into the multi-purpose vehicle class but takes it looks from a standard van. It’s Peugeot’s largest MPV and a real life saver for large families, having as many as nine seats. Folding them down reveals tonnes of storage space. It competes against the likes of the Volkswagen Caravelle and the Hyundai i800 and manages to do so just fine. It has a no-nonsense interior but space and superb value for money make this a hugely attractive option. Although it only comes in diesel, the 2-litre engine comes in three power output options, from 97bhp to 161bhp, as well as a choice of manual and automatic engines. The most powerful version of the Expert Tepee has a top speed of 106 miles per hour and zero to 60 time of 12 seconds. In all versions but one, you’ll get a six-speed gear box. It tends to be cheaper to insure than other cars in its class, so it makes an attractive option for younger drivers. Its interior is plain and simple interior but gets the job done.  Coming in petrol and diesel engines, the Fabia provides performance and practicality. With around 50 miles per gallon, it’s a safe and reliable car to get if you’re on benefits.

Having won numerous awards for various versions, it really doesn’t matter which year you go for; you’re guaranteed a high quality and reliable vehicle that is built to last. The 3 Series competes with the Mercedes C-Class and the Audi A4 but it is much more iconic. The sixth generation is a great choice as it offers more room in the back for two adults. They can still be fairly expensive to buy. But this means they retain their value well if you decide to sell yours in the future.

Around £340 per month

  • Cash price:      £8,499
  • Deposit:           £0

Abarth is part of the Fiat brand and the 595 is a souped-up version of the Fiat 500. It competes with the Skoda Citigo and the VW UP but more than holds its own. Popular as a city car because of its compact size and amongst young drivers because of its sporty looks, the 595 takes the Fiat it’s based on and adds a 1.4 litre turbo-charged engine to create some serious performance. On top of that, it’s racing body kit, bucket seats and Abarth styling make it stand out from the crowd. Its luggage storage isn’t quite as big as some competitors but the Abarth 595 is fun to drive, being quicker off the mark than the Up and the Citigo. The Abarth 595 is a fantastic option for anyone on benefits who is looking for car finance.c
