A Labour MP has shown who he truly is as he told Camilla Tominey he is “comfortable” the government has axed the winter fuel payments for millions of pensioners, as a result thousands could dies this winter.

Labour MP Jeevun Sandher told GB News he is comfortable the government has cut the winter fuel payment that will affect 10 million pensioners.

Pensioners in England and Wales who are not on pension credit or other types of benefits will no longer receive the winter fuel payments of between £100 and £300 from autumn.

The Pime Minister and the Chancellor have said they will not bring in any new form of Austerity and over the past few weeks they have been very much defensive over their plans.

Sandher told Tominey that the government is trying find ways to plug the 22 billion “black hole” they inherited from the Conservative Party.

He told GB News, “I asked pensioners if they are struggling with their bills, they said no.

“I said, on the other side of it, if you are struggling, we have pension credit and if you are just above the pension credit household, the household support fund.

“If any of my constituents are watching and you are struggling as pensioners, please do get in touch. We will help with your application.”

Tominey asked the Labour MP, “Isn’t it embarrassing for you, as a leftie, this idea that Labour come into power and then penalise seemingly some of the most vulnerable people in our society?

“We have 10 million pensioners affected by this. I think it was seen as something that might affect wealthy boomers who are seen not to need their winter fuel allowance because they are already loaded.

“Lots of people here are going to be adversely affected. They are on the breadline and they need that £300. You must be uncomfortable with it?”

He brutally said, “We needed to fill that public finance gap. I’m completely comfortable with the decisions Rachel Reeves has made.

“I know how difficult it is. I used to work at the Treasury and I was shocked by what I heard.

“Means-tested fuel allowance is there for the poorest pensioners, those who get Pension Credit, the state pension went up by £900 last April and £400 the coming April. There is enough help there.”

The GB News host who was visibly shocked said I “can’t believe” what she has just heard from the Labour MP.

She said, “I can’t believe you’re sitting here saying you’re happy with pensioners losing £300 of support.”

Sandher then seemed to peddle backwards and said he “isn’t happy” the winter fuel payments is to be cut from autumn, he insisted the Tories left Labour with a financial mess.

Earlier this month the Prime Minister was warned that impact of the means tested winter fuel payments could end up killing “3,850” pensioners this coming winter.

The Tory leader told Starmer during Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) on 11 September the impact of Labour cutting the winter fuel payment “could cause” an increase in pensioners dying because they cannot afford their heating bills.

Rishi Sunak said that Labour’s very own research dating back to 2017 revealed that there could be almost 4,000 pensioners dying over the winter months by scrapping the much-needed benefit.
