Tortilla delivers sales surge after takeaway push

Tortilla has reported a sharp acceleration in sales after expanding across Britain’s leading food delivery platforms, as the Mexican restaurant chain seeks to move beyond the accounting issues that temporarily suspended trading in its shares.

The burrito and taco chain said like-for-like sales rose almost 14 per cent in the six months to the end of June, reflecting strong consumer demand despite continued pressure on household spending.

Growth has been particularly pronounced since Tortilla launched simultaneously on Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat in late March. Sales have increased by almost a fifth over the period, while delivery revenue has risen by more than 50 per cent, driven by both higher order volumes and larger average transaction values.

The company said menu improvements and the rollout of self-service kiosks across 38 UK restaurants had also encouraged customers to spend more per visit.

The trading update coincided with the publication of delayed annual results after accounting issues in its French business forced auditors to reassess the group’s financial statements. Tortilla said profits for 2025 had previously been overstated because of accounting errors relating to its operations in France.

Chief executive Brandon Stephens said the company was now “turning the page” on the accounting issues and focusing on future growth.

The newly released accounts showed adjusted earnings of £1.1 million for 2025, with the UK business remaining profitable while the French division continued to post losses.

Shares, which resumed trading on Monday following last month’s suspension, fell around 5 per cent as investors weighed the stronger trading performance against the earlier accounting problems.
