There really is no place quite like London, it’s one of the greatest cities in the world packed with vibrant culture, fascinating history and a never-ending list of things to do and places to see. There are many reasons why London is so special, and we’d be here all day if we went through every single one of them, but here’s a few if you need convincing…
You can enjoy something for nothing
There aren’t many major cities that offer so many attractions free of charge. You can soak up art and culture at the National Portrait Gallery and National Gallery for no cost at all. Likewise, the Tate Modern, British Museum, and V&A are all completely free of any entrance fees. Compare this to the likes of Paris where entrance to the Louvre is free on just one Sunday a month, and you’ll have to battle a lengthy queue for the pleasure too. London, you rock!
The London Underground
Need we say more? The world’s first underground railway enables cheap travel around the city, and it’s quite easy to navigate once you get the hang of it. The London Underground is iconic, and ahead of many other city’s similar offerings of a metro service. Waiting just four minutes for the next train will anger impatient Londoners.
An impressive shopping scene
You really can shop ‘til you drop in London with an outstanding array of popular high street names, independent boutiques, designer shops and department stores. It wouldn’t be a trip to London without popping by Harrods, Liberty and Selfridges! You can get lost for hours in each one of these spectacular stores. For a truly British experience, head by Fortnum and Mason for unparalleled service and a food hall that will leave you salivating.
The best pubs in the world
Nowhere does a pub quite like London! There’s roughly 7000 of them in the city which range from historic boozers to a more modern experience. Enjoy cosy afternoons (usually sheltering away from the rain, it’s London after-all) by the fire with a pint in hand watching the world go by. For a true London experience, head down to the pub for a traditional Sunday Roast dinner, you won’t regret it.
The contrast in neighbourhoods
The different areas of London are what make it so unique and enjoyable! There’s a lot of places to visit, so it may well be worth looking into hiring a car for your trip. It can all seem a little intimidating at first, so it’s best to break it down into Central, North, East, South and West London, all of which differ greatly and offer something unique and exciting. East London is a real art and culture hub and also known to be hipster central whereas West London areas such as Chelsea and Kensington will offer a completely different vibe.
Buckingham Palace
It’s almost impossible to talk about London and not mention the Royal Family! Located in Westminster, Buckingham Palace is the London residence and administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom. Since 1993, the palace has opened its doors to visitors during the summer months, from July-October each year, visitors can walk through 19 of the magnificent State Rooms and explore the Palace’s Garden. It’s a must-visit for your London itinerary!
