Here’s what you need to know
Tech giant Apple launched the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X last night to much fanfare.
Should you buy it? Here’s what James Brown, director of gadget insurer Protect Your Bubble, has to say:
“As 2017 marks the 10 year anniversary of the iPhone, we were always bound to see something radical at this launch. And Apple certainly hasn’t let us down, as three new phones have been unveiled – the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X.
“The rumour mill proved to ring true, as the tech giant revealed a long-awaited design update for the iPhone X, which boasts an all-new edge-to-edge 5.8 inch OLED display.
“This edge-to-edge display means that the device is missing the home button we’ve seen since the first iPhone debuted a decade ago, and users will now control the handset by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
“However, the absence of the home button also means that the iPhone X offers no Touch ID security system, with users able to set up facial recognition via Face ID instead.
“The three new iPhones all boast a new glass front and back, making them the most durable iPhones to date, and will help protect users from unnecessary damage in their day to day lives.
“As expected, wireless charging capabilities are available across all three devices, and next year Apple will offer a new charging mat that allows simultaneous wireless charging for an iPhone, Apple Watch and the AirPod headphones.
“While prices for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus start at $699 and $799 respectively, the iPhone X comes in significantly higher at $999 thanks to the wealth of new features and functions the device offers.
“Today’s announcement marks a truly exciting new generation of smartphones that will keep iPhone purists happy and proves that Apple aren’t afraid to innovate in an increasingly busy space.”
