In response to the US drone strike that killed Major General Qasem Soleimani on Friday Iran has scrambled F-14 fighter jets to “western skies.”

The launch of the Iranian fighter jets has sparked fears of world war 3 as tensions are heightening with the US and Tehran.

Iranian state TV NBC journalist, Ali Arouzi said on Twitter, “Iranian F14 fighters jets manoeuvring on the western skies and on alert and patrol. State TV.”

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said on state TV, “Soleimani’s martyrdom will make Iran more decisive to resist America’s expansionism and to defend our Islamic values.

“With no doubt, Iran and other freedom-seeking countries in the region will take his revenge.”

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has declared three days of mourning for Soleimani and warned the US that a “harsh retaliation is waiting.”

The Ayatollah said on state TV, “All enemies should know that the jihad of resistance will continue with a doubled motivation, and a definite victory awaits the fighters in the holy war.”

Lebanon’s Hezbollah secretary general, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah called Soleimani a martyr and gave their condolences to Iran.

Nasrallah has pledged to “pursue his [Soleimani] path and work night and day to achieve his goals.”

The former US vice president Joe Biden gave a stark warning, “This is a hugely escalatory move in an already dangerous region.

“President Trump just tossed a stick of dynamite into a tinderbox, and he owes the American people an explanation of the strategy and plan to keep safe our troops and embassy personnel, our people and our interests, both here at home and abroad, and our partners throughout the region and beyond.”
