Tweet your favourite travel memories: South West Trains launch spectacular self-inflicted PR calamity

If you regularly anger your own customers with poor service, don’t expect any favours from them, even if it is your 20th birthday.

South West Trains learnt this simple PR lesson the hard way this week with a truly delicious own goal. So, if you are looking for some sardonic entertainment after a week of train travel misery, urine luck.

The feeble-minded folk in the PR department at South West Trains should really have seen that a derailment was just down the line when they tweeted this:

We’ve seen births… proposals… and hundreds of new trains! What are your memories of#SWT20? Send in your photos and memories for prizes!

They followed it with this:

“We’re celebrating our 20th anniversary! Help us celebrate for the chance to win a prize! Tweet us your favourite memories with #SWT20!”

And oh God, do people have a few memories they would like to publicly share. Standing room only!

Whoops! Enjoy!
