From Monday 1 July mobile phone customers will be able to switch providers by simply sending a text, under new regulator rules.
Currently customers have to request a “porting authorisation code” or PAC to keep their number and change provider.
A survey for Ofcom suggests that nearly a third of customers switching providers find it difficult to cancel their service.
From Monday any customer can change provider by simply texting “PAC” to 65075 to start the process, and within one minute the provider will reply via text and the PAC will be valid for 30 days.
Lindsey Fussell, Ofcom’s consumer group director said, “Breaking up with your mobile provider has never been easier thanks to Ofcom’s new rules.
“You won’t need to have that awkward chat with your current provider to take advantage of the great deals available.”
