1. Create goals that are realistic

Developing a popular social media space isn’t an overnight process. It is a long term project and you need to have particular social media goals in mind as milestones. For example, if you want a platform that will help you to find new audiences, then Facebook is a great option. Facebook makes it easy to share your posts and create a large membership of many thousands of people. On other other hand, if you have a very visually appealing, luxury or artistic type of brand, then you’ll find that Instagram is more suitable. If you want to engage playfully with people using your intelligence and wit, then you’ll find that Twitter may suit you.

Whichever space you choose, make sure that you have a filled out About section where you provide a link to your main page. This can be your personal website, another social media page, your online store etc. This will help your audience and customers to stay in touch with you, make purchases etc.

3. Focus on your social media branding

When using multiple different social media platforms at the same time, it is important that you remain consistent on all of them. Consider if you’ll use a main channel and then re-post on your other pages. Alternatively, you can have numerous accounts which you link together.

You should always have an account name that is in line with your brand and be consistent with it. This means that you should consistently use your signature graphics and colours across all platforms. If you have a real world or online business, the branding should be the same on your social media pages, business cards, stickers, postcards etc.

4. Collect insights

Most huge companies often spend a lot of money to gather information on the preferences of their customers. If you’re a small business, then you need to use the tools available to you to determine what your customers think. There is nothing better than using your own eyes and ears for this!

Remember, your customers are aware of the things they like and what they desire. So, all you have to do is ask your customers their thoughts on your products and what you can do to make them better. After all, your customers actually use your products all the time so what they have to say is very useful. Once you get feedback, make sure that you reply to them.

Even though you have a small business, that doesn’t mean that you can’t use analytical tools. The vast majority of social media platforms have their own data tools that you can use to perform analysis. They can easily provide visitor information, popular pages etc. Now, according to the type of account that you have, it is possible for you to check out even more detailed data analysis so that you can clearly see customer brand interactions.

5. Engage

You should always be the most active person in your own community. So, whenever someone makes a comment or asks a question, you should do your best to reply quickly. Remember, this community exists around you and your brand, so you need to be available to deeply engage with your community. Also, you shouldn’t simply wait for people to ask questions. You should make your own comments as well as do customer shout outs regularly. You should also provide information on your products freely, how to best use them, tips and tricks etc.
